Your beautiful Iron Door has now been installed by tried and true professionals. Now it’s time to ensure they stay looking as good as the day they were installed.
Steps for Cleaning Iron Doors
- Hose off the door by spraying it with a hose on a low pressure setting to remove any dirt and debris on the surface.
- Choose a vegetable-based soap and mix a teaspoon of it into a bowl of water until a small amount of suds are formed. Vegetable-based soap is gentle, which is why it’s used for such a wide variety of cleaning processes. You can also use a castile soap.
- Dip a lint-free, soft cloth into the soap and water solution.
- Starting at the top and working your way to the bottom, use the soapy cloth to gently wipe your door clean.
- Rinse the door by spraying it with a hose on a low pressure setting to remove the soap. You can use another clean, lint-free cloth, dipped in only water if needed to wipe down any left over dirt on the door.
- Use another dry cloth to dry the door, moving from top to bottom again. If any residue is left on the door, repeat steps 4 and 5.
By using gentle, vegetable-based soap, you preserve the overall look of your door while getting a good clean. Using soft cloths is essential to the process because using rough materials can scratch the paint.
Iron Door Maintenance
One of the best advantages, other than increased security, is that Iron doors require very little maintenance. Over the years you will notice the weather stripping and seals start to crack and rot. This is normal and can vary in time depending on how often the door is used and the climate you live in. You may also notice the hinges starts to squeak or feel rough when opening and closing the door, this just means they need some grease. When its time for seals to be replaced or hinges greased, give us a call and our teams will come out for a low cost to bring your door back to new!
